Meet Julie Hanna
Julie Hanna started Lakeside College Advisers in 2013 with the goal of helping families navigate the college search process with a personal, tailored approach.
Julie received her BA and MSJ (journalism) degrees from Northwestern University and certification in college counseling from UCLA. Work experience as a reporter, copy editor and writer for WTTW-Channel 11, the Chicago Tribune and Sports Illustrated give Julie the background in writing and editing to support the student in shaping college application essays. Julie has also visited more than 200 colleges and keeps abreast of trends in admissions through regular conversations with admissions representatives, colleagues around the country, and other professionals in the field of higher education.
She is a Professional Member of IECA (Independent Educational Consultants Association) and a member of the Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA). Julie loves working with high school students, getting to know them and their families, and seeing kids reach their potential.
Which colleges have the best and newest programs in areas that interest you? Where are the best scholarship opportunities? What about the hidden gems that might end up being the perfect fit for your student? Julie’s number one priority is getting to know your student and fitting their interests, talents, strengths, hopes and dreams into the puzzle of college choices and the ever-evolving landscape of college admissions.
Julie and her husband John Goodman, Winnetka residents since 1996, have two adult children, both graduates of New Trier High School.
